The internet is evil

I'm working on some pictures that are taking longer than I'd hoped. Time is a bit tight.

Why, therefore do I find that a perfectly legitimate quick search for ancient rakes has lead to me reading articles about evil medical experiments?

Or that a perfectly legitimate quick search to see if there's any info on what the Hebrew article of clothing called 'simlah' was like has lead to me reading a set of Seventh Day Adventist presentations on modest clothing?

Grrrrrrrrrr >:-(

Only one God?

It's very irritating, when you're reading historical stuff, and they 'reveal' that early Israelite religion was polytheistic, or that they worshipped a goddess. The implication is that the Bible gives an innaccurate view.

But the fact that the Israelites worshipped many gods is not news. The Bible makes this very very clear.

What the Bible says is that they should only worship one God. Not that they did. God didn't make laws to ban people from doing things they wouldn't have thought of doing anyway.

That says '1 GOD', not 'I GOD', as several confused people read it :-)

Sort algorithms

Computers need new sort algorithms.
Specifically:
  • Dates as normal humans write them (year at end) - preferably with months written in words.
  • Seasons - spring, summer, autumn, winter would sort in that order.
  • Books of the Bible. Acts should not come before Genesis.
Any other ideas?

Double vision

I had a dream in which there were people whose eyes looked a bit like this.

Word of mouth

"If you are not making work that inspires someone to tell a friend about it then your audience isn't going to grow."

Baby Moses

I really like drawing pictures like this:

But sometimes it is nice to draw things like this:

For Go Teach Toddlers Book 6

That jewellery was fun to do!

Procrastination

"No one “builds a house.” They lay one brick again and again and again and the end result is a house. Procrastinators are great visionaries—they love to fantasize about the beautiful mansion they will one day have built—but what they need to be are gritty construction workers, who methodically lay one brick after the other, day after day, without giving up, until a house is built."
Of course, the ironic reason I was reading this random page on the internet... ahem!

Focus

"Find one thing you can do better than other people, and focus on that."
Good advice for distractable people with too many ideas :-)

Computers

Computers are great, but sometimes I think charcoal and ochre on a cave wall would be less frustrating :-)

Desk/bed

This is so clever!
Everything stays on your desk where you left it.
You would have to make your bed properly, though.

Logo

Let the quality of the product build your brand. The logo can't do that for you. The Chanel logo meant nothing when it was new. It means a lot today.

The cashless society

Apparently they're predicting cash won't exist in 10 years.
Several problems:
  • Using coins to open things
  • Tossing coins
  • The Tooth Fairy. What will the Tooth Fairy do??? :-O

Watching people cry

I find it really uncomfortable when you're watching a documentary and the interviewee starts crying and can't carry on -  and the camera just keeps on filming.

In real life, if someone's crying you either comfort them or politely look away (depending on the circumstances and what they'd prefer). You don't just stare at them - that's rude.

Mount Sinai

Me: Why do you think the people weren't allowed to touch the mountain?
Child: Because mountains have germs?

Cloud: black sugar paper
Fire: Flourescent red/orange/yellow paper
Smoke: Purple chalk (use side not tip, and smudge)
Lightning: Yellow pipe cleaners
Letters: Gold card and star stickers
Mountain: Brown paper that came as packaging in a parcel

Printing on card

Useful tip:

If you tell your printer that you're printing on an envelope, you may be able to get away with printing on thicker card than it theoretically takes.

Do you think it's OK to lie to a printer?
