Good Friday

"He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree; so that, having died to sins, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but you have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls."
~ 1 Peter 2v24-25

All-day sun

Doesn't seem quite the right weather for Good Friday:

"Well might the sun in darkness hide
and shut his glories in
when God, the incarnate maker, died
for man, his creature's, sin"
~Isaac Watts

Remember and Proclaim

To celebrate our church's Good Friday meal restarting after a 2 year gap.
A lot shorter (and cheerier) than the previous music video I posted!

Brought near

... you were without Christ, excluded from the citizenship of Israel, and foreigners to the covenants of promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus, you who were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
Ephesians 2v12-13

I thought of this verse because of the incongruity - and appropriateness - of celebrating a Good Friday meal with pulled pork. Non-kosher gentiles brought in to God's people by the death of the Jewish Messiah.

Calvary was meant for me

Here's the song :

Friday, 3 April 2015

It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Jesus called out with a loud voice, ‘Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.’ When he had said this, he breathed his last.

Good Friday

Death and the curse were in our cup:
O Christ, ’twas full for Thee;
But Thou hast drained the last dark drop,
’Tis empty now for me.
That bitter cup, love drank it up;
Now blessing’s draught for me.

Cherubim & curtain

A collection of verses inspired by today's page in Explore.

After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
Genesis 3:24

Make a curtain of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen, with cherubim woven into it by a skilled worker ... The curtain will separate the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place.
Exodus 26:31,33

The LORD said to Moses: “Tell your brother Aaron that he is not to come whenever he chooses into the Most Holy Place behind the curtain in front of the atonement cover on the ark, or else he will die.
Leviticus 16:2

And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.
At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
Matthew 27:50-51

Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain ... let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
Hebrews 10:19-23

Good Friday

The price is paid: come, let us enter in
to all that Jesus died to make our own.
For every sin more than enough he gave,

and bought our freedom from each guilty stain

...

The price is paid: see Satan flee away -

for Jesus, crucified, destroys his power.
No more to pay! Let accusation cease:

in Christ there is no condemnation now
...
